Al Dhafra Sports and Cultural Club announced the completion of preparations for the launch of Liwa International Football Tournament during the period from the 21st to the 28th of this month.

This came during the press conference for the tournament, which the club held at its headquarters at Hamdan Bin Zayed Stadium in Zayed City in Al Dhafra region on the evening of Tuesday, December 17th, in the presence of the Club’s Chairman of Board of Directors, Hamdan Saif Al Mansouri, the Vice Chairman of the Club’s Board of Directors, Chairman of the Supreme Organizing Committee of the Championship, Hamad Khamis Al Mansouri, the Executive Director of the Club, Khamis Eissa Al Mazrouei and members of the tournament organizing committees.

At the beginning of the conference, Hamdan Saif Al Mansouri, Chairman of the Club’s Board of Directors, thanked His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region, for his support and sponsorship of Liwa International Festival, which has become a major tourist, cultural, sports and heritage destination within a short period with the support and directives of His Highness.

The Chairman of the Club's Board of Directors revealed that  Liwa International Football Tournament, which is being held for the first time under this name, comes within the framework of the activities and events accompanying the festival and within the interest in sports tourism and its diversification, as four major clubs representing Abu Dhabi and the teams which will participate during the tournament, namely Al Ain, Al Jazeera, Baniyas and Al Wahda clubs in additionto the Saudi  club Al-"Kholoud" and Al Dhafra Club, the host of the tournament.

For his part, Hamad Khamis Al Mansouri, Chairman of the Supreme Organizing Committee of the tournament, welcomed the participating clubs, wishing success to all teams, adding that the tournament is considered as a good preparation for Al Dhafra Club, which seeks to return to its natural place among the professional clubs.

The tournament is also considered the best preparation for the participating clubs for the competitions of the current sports season.

Al-Mansouri confirmed that the tournament committees have completed their preparations for the launch of the tournament by addressing the relevant federations, setting regulations, determining the stadiums for the tournament, prizes for the participating teams and fans, and arrangements for receiving and hosting the Saudi Club "Al-Kholoud" which is participating in the tournament.

Al Mansouri thanked the Department of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and Liwa Sports Club for their support of the tournament as supporting sponsors.

The Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al Dhafra Club hoped that the tournament would achieve its organizational, societal, entertainment and promotional goals and that within a short period of time it would become a major tournament within the programs, events and activities of Liwa International Festival.
